Thoth was self conceived at the beginning of time. Husband of Maat. A man with the head of an Ibis. An ibis or an ape. Thoth was primarily thought to be the god of wisdom. He was patron of arts and science and also the patron god of scribes. He was the inventor of the words of god, or Hieroglyphs.

Thoth is particularly familiar from the famous judgment scene shown in the Book of the Dead. Here the heart of the deceased was tested for purity by weighing it against the feather of the goddess Maat, symbolising truth. If the heart failed the test it was thrown to the
(Ammut) "the Eater of Souls".
