At the beginning of the New Kingdom, the Nubian Nile Valley as far south as Gebel Barkal fell under Egyptian control. Residing in Lower Nubia at Aniba a viceroy "King's Son of Kush", administered the region. According to its hieroglyphic text, this cuboid limestone image depicts the "representation of the King's Son," Ruyu.
