1 loaf of white bread slices, buttered, 1/2 inch cubed, (20 slices)
2 cups whole milk
8 egg whites
1 cup apple sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup raisins
1 cup walnuts, chopped
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
Butter bread and slice into cubes, place in large bowl. Mix in milk, applesauce, egg whites, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, raisins and walnuts.
Let mixture stand 35 minutes.
Butter a Pyrex 3-quart bake dish (measures 13 inches long by 9 inches wide by 2 inches deep).
Add bread mixture and bake 35 to 40 minutes or until knife inserted comes out clean.
Let set 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
For the sauce:
Mix together milk, butter, cinnamon and granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir together until the sugar is melted. Pour over individual bread pudding servings. Serve warm.
